New London's police chief who was injured during Superstorm Sandy last fall has been placed on paid leave after being unable to work more than two hours a day for the past three months.
The Day of New London reports that Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio said in a news release on Wednesday that he hopes Chief Margaret Ackley will resume her full-time duties as soon as possible.
Ackley has been treated for injuries since being hit in the head by a window at the emergency operations center at fire headquarters during the Oct. 29 storm. Finizio said she put an ice pack on her head and continued to work for several days.
Ackley will continue to be paid under workers' compensation.
Deputy Chief Peter Reichard will step in as acting chief.
