I am a teacher by day, blogger/wife by night. I took Friday off from work and woke up that morning to devastating news that 20+ innocent children and teachers had been killed. I held back the tears as I thought of my own students & prayed that they wouldn?t hear the news until they were safe at home with their families. I found myself wishing I was at school to hug each and every one of them & to let them know how special they were.
My husband and I sat on our couch, watching the news in shock, and I thought of those teachers who gave their lives for these children. I wondered what I would have done. I live in Las Vegas and teach in a pretty rough neighborhood. My 4th grade students are occasionally approached by gang members asking them to join. I?ve been in 3 lockdowns in 3 years. Despite all of the scary things that happen around us, my precious students come to school each day to learn, and I love them. How can I not, especially when they leave things like this on my desk?
So when I found myself wondering how I would have reacted if I were a teacher at that school, I knew the answer. There is nothing I wouldn?t do for my students if danger were threatening them.
We pray for those families who lost their innocent little ones. We pray for the families of the heroic educators that were lost. We pray for that community and most of all, we pray that we will remember that there is still good in this world. We posted this on our Facebook page the other day as it brought the hope back into our hearts & helped remind me that, yes, there is evil in the world? but there is also SO. MUCH. GOOD!
We were approached by some of our blogger friends to participate in a ?Day of Remembrance? and take a break from blogging in honor of those who were lost. We gladly jumped on board. I believe I speak on behalf of all of us on The Dating Divas Team when I say that this expresses how we are feeling?
So, instead of giving you our weekly creative date idea to start preparing for the weekend, we ask that if you are able, to please visit one of these sites below to give back to those who are grieving the loss of their loved ones. Thank you SO much! We are blessed to have readers such as you!!
