Toyota Tundra Pulls Shuttle Endeavour Through L.A.

Los Angeles is no stranger to gridlock. But it's not often the thing stopping traffic is from space.

We've been following the journeys of the retired space shuttles to their new homes (especially Enterprise, which now resides near the PopMech office in New York). This weekend the Endeavour made a 12-mile trek through the streets of Los Angeles, embarking from Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday and arriving at its retirement home at the California Science Center on Sunday.

In its three-day trip trip through LA, Endeavor hit blistering speeds of up to 2 mph, snaking its way between trees, homes, and traffic signals. And at one point, because of weight restrictions, a 4X4 Toyota Tundra pulled the 170,000-pound shuttle across the Manchester Boulevard Bridge. Not too shabby for a 381-hp, 5.7-liter V-8, given that the entire shuttle rig, including custom-made dolly, weighed just north of 300,000 pounds.
